Request to President for Get Together with Elders.

Sub: Non-implementation by Central Ministries & State Governments/UTs of Various Policies notified by the Government for Senior Citizens.

We are very happy to see you as our First Citizen as President of India, being one of 12 crore Senior Citizens of the Country. As you may be aware, we have been representing to Prime Minister and concerned Ministers by name of Central Government and Chief Ministers of States/UTs for our various demands from time to time. No sincere efforts are made to implement many of the provisions of various policies announced by the Government. We observe that Elders of the Country are repeatedly ignored by Central, State & Local Bodies and as such 12 crore Senior Citizens have united and decided to observe 16-8-12 as National Protest Day. This year, in addition to demonstrations & sending Post Cards & Memorandum to all concerned throughout the Country, starting from 1^st August, thousands of YOUR ageing & ailing Senior Citizens will undertake fast at various places on that day.  We would not like to bother you about details of our long pending issues but would request you to create atmosphere of respect for Elders by Society and response by Government authorities towards various issues of Elders of the Country.

We request you to have a Get-Together at Rashtrapati Bhawan of representatives of our Associations of Senior Citizens from each State/UT and some representatives from All-India level on the eve of World Elders Day (1^st Oct, 2012). Such an initiative by Head of the Country celebrating World Elders Day with Elders of the Country will be appreciated by the whole World as first instance of its kind. Your calling such a Get-together of Elders will go a long way to create proper atmosphere in the Country for respect towards Elders in Society and Government Circles. Elders are huge untapped resource and their potentials are to be realized and used for uplift of the Country. Your calling will also make Media to create respect for Elders in the Country and play an important role in highlighting the changing situations of Elders and promote the concept of active & dignified ageing. Elders attending your Get-Together will be very happy to meet for friendly talks and apprise you of first-hand information about position of Elders in each State & whole country and cherish your Hospitality for life. They will be very proud to become your Guests. We shall eagerly await the invitation & announcement for this.
