Dr. Man Mohan Singh, our Prime Minister, while releasing his 10- Point Social Charter recently at the inaugural session of Confederation of Indian Industries Annual Summit, 2007, reminded the industrialists to realize their social responsibility of caring for less privileged sections of the Society. The Corporate Sector is already contributing a lot by themselves as well as through participating partnership with various NGOs and appears ready to help for any specific cause. Each Association of Sr Citizens can take up one important local issue/problem/topic, collaborate with local Bank/Businessman/Municipality etc and do something concrete for the Society in addition to present activities of chit-chatting, listening lectures, arranging health camps, celebrating birthdays etc.
Each Association can also meet the local Associations of Doctors, Chemists and make them persuade their elite members to adopt on long term basis some needy deserving Sr Citizens for free check-ups including pathological investigations and medicines and some concessions for all Sr Citizens as a mark of respect. They can also meet other big businessmen in Malls, Big Bazaars, Big Shops to get needy deserving Sr Citizens (even though not below poverty line but having limited resources) adopted on long term basis for free or concessional rate monthly requirement of groceries. Big industrialists/Trusts/Municipality etc can be approached for providing Day Care Centres, Vrudhashram, Convalescent Home, and Holiday Home etc in your locality with active partnership in management.
